La Calchona:
Cara La Calchona
~ Lindblom
Once upon a time there was a happily married couple who lived in the country near Chol Chol with their two children. The mother was a witch, the good kind of course. Her name was Cara La Calchona. Her children were Pablo and L o l i t a.
La Calchona had some magical potions she would spread across her body so she could turn into any kind of animal she wanted. Then, once becoming a big blue dog (named Aristotle) or a cute sheep or goat, in a feisty mood she would wander through the night having fun.
The following morning she returned to her home and family. She would use the magical potions again and recover as her true form.
Sooner or later her children discoverd her potions. Pablo and used them and turned into fantastic little animals. They were animalitos. Confused, they began to cry piteously. Unfortunately, in the form of a blue dog, her mother was out in the night and couldn't help. Upon return home in the morning, she found no potions to return herself to her true form.
Why? La Calchona's husband, don Coco, found, instead of his beloved children some small animals crying in the bedroom of his children. They were animalitos. He was not confused. "Cara," he said. He did know about the potions. He used them to return his children to their true forms. Pablo and appeared again in their true forms. Then, he dumped the remainder of the potions into the river Bio Bio.
Cara La Calchona returning from her nighly jaunt, in the shape of a blue dog was unable to find her magical potions so she could never recover her true form. She remained the blue dog Aristotle, forever or, at least, until recently when she has returned. She is dedicated to saving honest people.
Everyone has a habit of leaving food for her as a tribute to her efforts as she is totally harmless to honest people.
